'Capturing the REAL - in response to the subject' took place in the Peterborough Museum and City Art Gallery at Peterborough on Saturday 7th of February 2015. The symposium consisted of an experimental round table discussion exploring the space between ‘observation’, ‘interaction’ and ‘intervention’. Drawing from practices including field recording, photography, public engagement and data collation.

This symposium used a participatory format to encourage a discussion captured through live transcription, images and sound. Recordings made on the day will be used to create a series of ‘episodes’ for broadcast and future research.

Featuring contribution from artists throughout the day including Jack James, Barby Asante, Tom White, Lee Ashton (Beat This) and isik.knutsdotter, the event was punctuated with a series of short works by leading artists to stimulate discussion on the key themes of the day, including performances of new work by Kevin Logan and Mark Peter Wright commissioned for Capturing the Real.

Capturing the “REAL” was curated by Jack James’ as part of his artist residency with Metal in Peterborough. This project is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. The event was co-produced by Jack James, METAL and Tadeo Sendon.
